The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has moved nearly 300procedures from its inpatient-only list and announced that it will phaseout the complete list of 1,700 procedures by 2024. The change gives surgeons the flexibility to determine which procedures and patients they believe are appropriate for an outpatient setting.
In anticipation of this seismic shift, Parkhill is taking the ambulatory surgery center into the future with a continuum-of-care model that responds to the broadening scope of approved procedures. In selected markets, Parkhill Surgery Centers become the hub of next-generation Surgery+ Centers that incorporate complementary services to address broader needs and provide post-surgical care that requires longer stays.
Parkhill develops and owns the Surgery+ Centers in partnership with physicians and other medical professionals. We own and operate the surgery and imaging components and contract with high-quality providers for the other onsite services and for offsite home health care. Working with these partners to coordinate care, share best practices and continually measure and improve quality, we deliver comprehensive care for less.
This approach enables our centers to accommodate more complex procedures as they move to the outpatient setting—providing support and safety for more compromised ASA III patients. While the exact mix depends on local needs, Parkhill Surgery+ Centers typically include:
